Chapter 26

Choose one of the following questions to answer in a complete paragraph (minimum of 3 sentences). Note which question you are answering.

1. Identify at least one example that Scout is growing up and maturing and one example that Jem is growing up and maturing.

2. Why is it hypocritical of Miss Gates to teach a lesson on Hitler's persecution of the Jews?

3. What is Harper Lee's purpose in writing this chapter? Think about the messages she wants to send her readers.

Because it is almost the same thing that was going on in Maycomb. They were torturing black people just like he tortured the Jews. It is just wrong.

#2. Miss Gates is being hypocritical because the same thing is happening in maycomb. She talks in her lesson about how horrible it is to judge the Jews, but at the same time she is one of the people who is judging black people. So that's why she's being hypocritical.

#2. It is hypocritical because the same thing with the blacks and whites is hapening. The black people have no chose and they are prosucuted because of thier color. Hitler prosicuted the jews because of thier religion.

One example that Scout is growing up is when she has tea with her Aunt and them, she doesn't act like a boy then. And with Jem it's at the court, he pays attention and acts both respectible and responsible.

1)Scout dosen't argue anymore like she used to.when she was little.jem is more interested in footbal more than playing with Scout and Dill.plus he is going into puberty stages.

It is hypocritical of Miss Gates because it is wrong to do that. She says that it is wrong to judge the Jews when she is she is doing the same thing to the African American people and It is like what is happening in Maycomb.

I think she is trying to say, treat everyone equally or treat people how you want to be treated. Don't harm anything that is inocent because to them they thought they were doing the right thing.

Miss Gates said that it wasn't right that Hitler was persecuting the jews. She said that they were good people. Then she went and said mean things about the black people. She was being hypocritical.

#2 She was being very hypocritical. The same thing is happening in Maycomb. Blacks are persecuted more severely than whites would be. Like if a a white person, and a black person commited the same crime, the black person would get more punishment.

An example of Scout maturing is when she has tea with her aunt. She uses manners and acts very mature and ladylike. An example of Jem maturing is when they are in the court room watching Tom Robinson's trial; he is very mature and understanding. He behaves very appropriatley.

2. The persicusion of the jews by hitler is like the persecution of the blacks by the whites. The whites are never good to the blacks. That is sorta what happened to Tom.

One example is that Scout is maturing is that she is starting to act like a ladey. One example that Jem is maturing is that he is starting to grow hair. they have grown up alot seens the begianing of the book.

Q1.) One example of Scout growing up is her waering a dress and also she is not getting in as much fights. Also Jem is growing up by saying that he will stand behide Atticus for what ever he wants to do.
