Chapter 22

Choose one of the following questions to answer in a complete paragraph (minimum of 3 sentences). Note which question you are responding to.

1. Explain how Atticus's character has influenced Jem. Identify evidence that supports Jem's reaction to the guilty verdict.

2. How do the children (Jem, Scout, and Dill) deal with the outcome of the trial? What do their ways of coping reveal about each of them?

3. How do the adults (Atticus, Miss Rachel, Calpurnia, Aunt Alexandra, Miss Stephanie, Miss Maudie, and Bob Ewell) deal with the outcome of the trial? What do their reactions and comments reveal about each of their characters?

2. Jem, Dill, and Scout are not very happy with the trial and they complain about the outcome alot. The way they do this reveals that they are always not happy when it dosnt go their way

Dill, Jem,and Scout are sad and angry with the verdict because they felt that Atticus fought a good fight and proved Tom innocent. The verdict made them angry because it didnt go their way and that is the way it revealed themselves.

#2. Even though the children are sad, they act very mature. Throughout the whole process of the trial, certain characteristics are revealed in both Scout and Jem. For instance maturity, wiseness, and calmness start to show in both of them.

#1 Jem respected his father and was sure that they were going to win the trial. When they didn't Jem broke down in sobbs knowing that he should have been freed. Jem had firmly believed that Tom wasn't guilty after listening to his father.

Number 2:
They think it was an unfair trial. Jem and Dill both cry. They are mad at the Maycomb people who made this decision. They really do care about all of the Maycomb people, even the black people.

1. Jem looked at his dad like he knew everything. He was so certain that his dad would have won the trial. When Tom was sent to jail Jem was upset. He knew that Tom should have been set free. He thought it was an unfair trial.

They are not happy that they found Tom guilty. They complain about it a lot. Throughout the process of the trial diffrent characteristics are revealed in both Jem and Scout. It shows that they are really mature for there age. Even if things dont go there way.

Jem, Scout, and Dill are very upset that Tom plead guilty because they follow in Atticus's footsteps somewhat. They believe they pronounced Tom guilty because of his color and are strongly oppossed to that. Jem gets irritated when Scout asks him about the trial because he needs time to think about it, according to Atticus, which reveals maturity in thinking about complex things.

They are very upset of the outcome of the trial. They think that Tom is innocent and it was an unfair trial. The ways they deal with the outcome show that they are very caring and they care whether or not an innocent man gets killed for something he didn't do.

The children are disapointed with how the trial ended. They don't understand why Tom didn't win. This really brought out alot about them.

#2 The kids were real sad. They wanted Tom to win the case, so he wouldn't go to jail. Even Atticus felt bad, because he knew the trial outcome was a mistake.

The kids all have different ways of dealing with it.Dill gets realy mad and frustrated with people.Jem just dosent whant to talk about it at all. Scout on the other hand whants to whants to talk about it and try to learn more about what is going on.
