Chapter 12

1. Briefly explain Jem's and Scout's visit to First Purchase church (Calpurnia's church). What do people think/feel about them? How do they feel about this experience?

2. What new things do Scout and Jem learn at this church about how the black people live?

3. Describe Calpurnia's education and her son's education-refer to their literacy.

Scout and Jem learn a lot about black people. They learn that most blacks can't read. They also learn that they don't use hymn books in church and that most of them respect the Finch family.

THis is #2. Jem and Scout Learn about the black people. THey learned that most Black people can't read. And they learn that they don;t use hymm books and that they have respect for the Finches Family.

#2 When Scout and Jem go to Calpurnia's church they learn about how Calpurnia and her son live.Calpurnia and her son are not very educated and are poor and their church doesnt have hymnals beacuse most of the people that attend the church cant read.

#3 Calpurnia and her son have very good education compared to the rest of their church. They are two out of the three people who could read in their church. Since they learned from a book of commentaries called "Blackstone's Commentaries", and the writer knew fine English, then they probably could speak and write just as well as Aunt Alexandra.

in fist purchase there are no hyme books because most african-americans cant read. instead the one that can read sing the words and others follow. people help each other out at fist purchase.

Scout and Jem learn somethings about black peoples' literacy skills when they attend the First Purchase church. They learn that black people do not have much of or no education because of the lack of money and respect. They cannot read, thus, they have no hymn books in the church.

Scout and Jem learned more about black people. They also learned that most of them can't read , and found that there is no hymn books for the church. They gained that the blacks were more respectfull to the Finches then many families in Maycomb.

Calpurnia is smart but she never went to school. She can read. She taught her son how to read out of the Bible.

Calpurnia is educated and her son was taught by her. She only talks like a black person when she hangs out with them but when she is with Jem and Scout she talks like a regular. She taught her son to read and to write.
